Please find below a summary of the talk:
Well-designed auctions harness competitive forces to price and allocate scarce resources to maximize societal goals. Government policy can be improved in nearly every sector with the careful application of auctions. With auctions, policy makers focus on establishing the rules of competition, rather than on selecting winners and losers through command-and-control policies. The auction approach emphasizes transparency, competition, and efficiency. Auctions achieve social objectives at lower cost and are robust to changing environments. In addition, auctions can be implemented quickly and at low cost, thanks to enormous advances in auction technology enabled by the internet. In this talk, I present two important examples, illustrating the power of auctions. These case studies currently are being debated in the United States. The first is the use of auctions as a means of addressing the financial crisis. The second is the use of auctions to achieve energy policy goals at least cost.
It is a pleasure to announce that Dr. Gordon PHILLIPS from the University of Maryland will conduct a conference on the impact of the current financial crisis in the US on world economy. Due to the limitation of space, please confirm your attendance by Email or at: 71 961 333.
