SMU

SMU’s founder’s vision was to establish a university in his country that mimics an American style education system for the benefit of students from the African and South-Mediterranean region.

SMU is looking towards expanding its activities with the objective of launching new programs in engineering and sciences and information technology. To this end, the next undertaking of SMU is the establishment of the Mediterranean Institute of Technology (MEDITECH) which will promote scientific inquiry and research excellence in higher education in the scientific fields. First steps towards establishing a world-class scientific center in the region will be the launch of our engineering school.

MEDITECH will be launched in 2013. It will offer programs in three areas of specialization: Computer Systems Engineering, Robotics, and Information Technologies. In line with SMU’s overall strategy of academic excellence and reliance on partnerships with outstanding institutions, MEDITECH has signed a MoU with the University of Waterloo in Canada for the development of a partnership in the area of computer systems engineering. Other formal partnerships are under consideration for the development of the Robotics and Information Technologies programs.

Initially, MEDITECH will instate an undergraduate engineering program. The projected capacity of the engineering school will be 300 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students.
